On this Women’s day, we are gonna discuss this sensitive topic with you. Let me give you a brief introduction first, before we start discussion of the day. On Feb 28, 1909, the Socialist Party of America organized it in remembrance of the 1908 strike of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union. Later, German socialist Luise Zietz inspired by the American socialist, proposed the idea of establishment of an annual ‘International Woman’s Day’. Delegates (from different countries) agreed with it to promote equal rights for women.
It is celebrated on March 8 every year, focus of the event is to celebrate respect, appreciation and love towards women. Most the people know this as typical definition of IWD, at least.
Even theme of the event is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”.
But do we all really mean it? Its 21st century and we are embracing a world of equal participation of women in political, economic and social aspects, but there are some people who still treat a woman as a sex object. Let’s talk on this in detail.
What lead to see a woman as sex object?
It doesn’t has just one factor which leads to this type of mentality, there are many.
We all know that we have different traditions and values across the globe, so what if parents don’t teach their male or female child that how to treat a/another woman. A BIIIG Question! There is a very fine line between approaching her and assaulting her who’s gonna tell this. We, as parents are wholly responsible for such etiquette. Some society evils have been trending from a long ago and we (Current generation) are still practicing it.
One of the fastest growing is Human trafficking industry in the world. According to the US, it includes male child labor and primary targets are women for sexual servitude.
Honor killing, Abusing, Unequal pay are some other social evil in Britain, Europe, North America, Russia and India even all over the world.
Dowry is the most popular one in India; we have seen so many cases where parents also involved in such harassment and killings for money and a part of Indian culture. The saddest part of the story is educated people and so called face of the current society is also actively supporting all these vice acts and even more technically.
MEDIA & PORNOGRAPHY
Media always plays a big role in such matters. The number of encouraging stories are very less than the demotivating one as breaking news. We used to watch serials where women ditch men for their personal benefits and men beat women to look dominant. It also plays a major role in making negative perception of women in their mind.
Pornography raises expectation of men to an impractical level which also leads to physical abuses and disrespect. It is not like that men are always right but these little things really affect men’s perspective. We have to choose wisely between just entertainment and better building blocks for giving a teen, a million reasons to respect women who otherwise will become irresponsible citizen or may be a culprit.
ROLE OF EDUCATION
Like the two sides of a coin, where some people are using their skills for malicious purposes, Education is also a ray of hope! How does education help us to be a good human being? There are many answers for this question, but expanding your limits of acceptance so that you can understand life, creatures, things better is probably the greatest one. Education helps us realize that god created us equal, we have equal rights. But again it comes to our culture which we are surrounded by.
SCIENCE SIDE OF THE STORY?
According to an US study, women really are perceived that way. The psychologists made use of a mechanism known as the inversion effect to understand this. If pictures are moved upside down, we find it difficult to recognize but we can easily get buildings, cars etc., that are objects. Pictures of men and women in underwear or bathing suits were shown to subjects. When they were again shown to subjects in inverted version moving upside down, they find difficulty to recognize the photos of men, whether, they easily got the photos of women. Though, it’s a science side, you always have a personal choice, it’s up to you. It’s 21st century, we are educated and socialized and we should understand our responsibility.
WHAT CELEBS SAY ABOUT WOMEN?
“Too often women can’t access the information they need to fight the pay discrimination… Women can’t wait for equal pay. And I won’t stop fighting to address this inequality.” – Barack Obama
“Women were ignore precedent and startle civilization with their progress.” – Nikola Tesla
“If you respect women, be it as a Girlfriend, Wife or Sister, they will love you. Respect is Love for them.”- Shahrukh Khan
We believe that women deserve an equal position in our society.
Abusing women physically or mentally is a sign of a coward. Women are incredible and every woman deserves to be treated like a queen , Although, we also support gender equality.
Happy Women’s day. 🙂
See ya! Stay blessed!
